The Bridge

You'll have noted by now that Aston Villa feature prominently on my blog-site, so here's an other Villa post all about my experience of watching 'Aston Martins Claret & Blue Army' play at Chelski last week:

[Special thanks go to Mrs Gellar aka Helen's Mum for kindly obtaining match/coach tickets to Stamford Bridge for Rob & I]

It was the middle of a crazy-busy week in Sutton I caught 2 trains from Sutton to London where I met Rob and we had a lovely delayed tub-ride to Fulham Broadway, arriving in the 'Shed End Upper' just before kick-off. The scoreline didn't bother me in the end, Chelsea fielded pretty-much their strongest team and despite Villa giving it their all the gulf in class showed.

Stamford Bridge is an impressive stadium, but the home-fans disappointed me they only cheered 4 times, after each goal scored whereas the Villa faithful (6,000 barmy brummies) were cheering on the Villa for the whole game, even more so with each goal conceded and we continued long after leaving the ground. A few of my favourite Villa chants included "Have you won the European Cup, European Cup, European Cup?", also (aimed at Mr Lampard) "Where were you in Germany?", "Martin, give us a wave!", and he did......I was very impressed Mr O'Neill also walked over to the fans after the game and waved, thumbs up to all of us, an amazingly nice guy". Although Chelsea are an awesome skilled side, I lost respect for Didier Drogba who fell over and conned the referee constantly.

I did feel a great sadness inside though at several points, including when Frank Lampard (who it was a thrill to watch in the flesh) scored as I would so love to have turned to Matt and slapped him! Such a big part of our friendship focused on Villa-related banter....... when Juan Pablo scored his brilliant own-goal against Spurs a few weeks back; it's a moment that would have Matt in hysterics for weeks!

He'd also have chuckled, as will you, to know we almost missed the coach back to B'ham! Due to timing Rob and I had come down by train but had a coach ticket back, problem is there were 2 coach parks and obviously we went to the wrong one.......just made it back to Stamford Bridge to see most of the other coaches in convoy down main road...... after desperately trying to get on on a coach we were let on the very last one and got home to Sutton about 2am!! (I knew God would provide for us but still pretty stressful!).

Roll on the next game!

Well you are right Matt would have laughed at you nearly missing the Coach. He used to laugh when you used to text him When Lampard Scored. 'Good Goal Frank'!

it was a good goal.....although Steve Davis (on his day off from snooker) shouldn't have allowed the cross for Frank's goal.

Oooh is that the bus I see to non-sporting topics?
